One-Way Interviews

Talent Acquisition Case Studies

Sumitomo Canada Limited.

Case Study: Supplemental Recruiting Assistance
Our Client: Sumitomo Canada Limited.
Our Client's Challenge: Accessing Bilingual Resources for Recruiting

The Situation:

Our Client, Sumitomo, needed a fluently bilingual administrative assistant for their Montreal office, but Sumitomo did not have an HR representative available to handle the hiring process.  Sumitomo is an integrated trading company based in Japan, with Canadian offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal.  One of their main concerns was that we ensure a good cultural fit with both the company and the Montreal office.

HirePower's Solution:

One of our  bilingual HirePower consultants worked with the Corporate HR Department in the Toronto head office to determine the requirements for the role.  HirePower then developed a detailed job description in both English and French, and posted it on a targeted Montreal job board.

The consultant reviewed resumes, and screened candidates in both English and French by phone. The Client was then presented with five short-listed candidates who all visited the Montreal office for in depth one on one interviews.

Helping Our Client Succeed In The Market:

Based on HirePower’s careful screening and selection of short list candidates, the one to one interviews were extremely successful.  A lead candidate was chosen from the pool of five and was offered the position with Sumitomo on the following day.  HirePower demonstrated the ability to quickly learn what attributes were important to the Client’s company culture, lift the recruitment tasks off the Client’s busy list, and smoothly and efficiently source the right candidate for the role. Sumitomo was thrilled with the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of this hiring solution.

Vale Canada

Case Study: Employer Branding and Recruitment Consulting Projects
Our Client: Vale (in Canada)
Our Client's Challenge: Creating Brand Awareness as Employer of Choice as Part of a Large Scale Hiring Campaign

The Situation:
Part I

Vale is the second largest Mining Company in the world and Vale Canada recently underwent a name change.  Shortly thereafter, Vale partnered with HirePower to plan and lead a Cross-Canada Road Show with the objective of recruiting top talent in a very competitive market, while building brand awareness under its new name as an Employer of Choice.

Part II

After successfully completing Phase I of the recruitment road show, Vale approached HirePower to build a recruitment strategy for their new operations in Long Harbour, Newfoundland.    With approximately $2.8 billion being invested in building these new, state-of-the-art nickel processing facilities, Vale needed to find 2,500 candidates for the construction effort and a further 500 candidates to fill the permanent positions that would be created upon completion of the project.

HirePower's Solution:
Part I

HirePower led the planning and execution of the roadshow and recruiting events including: several University and College Information Sessions, Career Fairs and opening and running of temporaryAssessment Centers.  To target mid-career to senior managers we created a Vale-specific recruitment blitz, “Mining for Talent”, and the team visited nine cities in ten days across the country to source top talent.

Part II

A multi-pronged recruitment strategy and detailed project plan was developed with the Vale Newfoundland and Labrador (VNL) team.   Through extensive consultation and teamwork, a plan including sourcing strategies, events, and marketing was presented to and agreed by the VNL team.  This strategy is currently being executed.

Helping Our Client Succeed In The Market:

Over the course of a 12-month period, HirePower partnered with Vale to identify and plan 35 events including 11 Vale-specific events for the Road Show. This level of activity was a first for Vale and it facilitated a high level of exposure for the organization.  In turn we jointly achieved our objectives for improving brand awareness of Vale and for increasing the number of top talent new hires at all levels of the organization.

Although the Newfoundland project is still very much underway, our VP HR Client was so impressed with the results to date that she identified the Vale Newfoundland HR team to the other regional offices as an excellent example, drawing particular attention to their innovative hiring strategy for the NL project.  HirePower was happy to help them shine!
